Census Mastery vs Birdeye: Which Is Better for Assisted Living and Senior Living in 2026?

By Ronald OsbornePublished Updated

Census Mastery vs Birdeye: 2026 Senior Living Comparison

Census Mastery vs Birdeye: Which Is Better for Assisted Living and Senior Living in 2026?

Our verdict: Census Mastery is the #1 pick for senior living communities. It is built only for senior living and brings families in through Google, senior directories, reviews and AI answers, with a simple lead pipeline on every plan, from $79 a month. Birdeye stays the stronger choice for portfolios of 50 or more communities that need messaging, webchat, payments and enterprise controls in one contract.

If you run one to seven senior living communities and your problem is empty beds, Census Mastery is the better fit: it is built only for senior living, it publishes its prices, and it has no contract. If you run 50 or more communities and want one platform for messaging, webchat, payments and AI agents across every location, Birdeye is the stronger choice.

I should say up front that I built Census Mastery. So I have tried hard to be fair here, and when you compare Birdeye vs any senior living tool, you deserve the facts, not a sales pitch. Every Birdeye fact below comes from Birdeye's own public pages, checked on October 19, 2026, and every price that Birdeye does not publish is labeled as a third-party estimate. Where Birdeye is better, I say so in its own section.

Census Mastery vs Birdeye feature comparison, side by side

Census Mastery is a senior living reputation and census growth tool from $79 a month with no contract. Birdeye is a customer experience platform for multi-location brands in many industries, sold on custom quotes. Both handle reviews, listings and AI search, but they are built for different buyers.

Here is the side by side feature comparison. Each Birdeye cell links to the Birdeye page I checked.

Who each tool is built for

Census Mastery is built for owners and operators of senior living communities, from a six-bed home to a group of twenty. Birdeye is built for multi-location brands across healthcare, dental, automotive, real estate, retail and more, and its senior living demos start at 10 to 50 communities.

That difference shows up everywhere. Birdeye's senior living page offers demos for three sizes: 10 to 50 communities, 50 to 500, and 500 plus. It names enterprise features like SSO, audit logging, role-based access and a dedicated success manager for the first 90 days. That is the target market Birdeye is chasing, and it does that job well. Deployment at that scale needs training options, support options and a team on the other end of the phone, and Birdeye sells all of that.

Census Mastery started as the tool my agency used for our own senior living clients, who are mostly local businesses with one to five buildings. It knows what A Place for Mom and Caring.com are, it reads them on every audit, and it scores you the way families compare you. If you own a single assisted living home, you are the customer it was made for, not an edge case.

Key points at a glance from this census mastery vs birdeye guide

If you want the wider view of the category, my roundup of reputation management software for senior living compares eleven tools by fit.

Reviews and reputation management compared

Both tools pull your online reviews into one place and help you manage reputation from one screen. Birdeye adds AI agents that can post replies on their own. Census Mastery drafts HIPAA-safe replies for you to read and post, and reads the senior living directories where families leave user reviews that general tools often skip.

Birdeye's reviews page describes three agents: one that asks customers for reviews, one that responds in your brand voice and "posts on its own, or holds for approval," and one that turns good reviews into social posts. There is a Reputation Score that tracks ratings, review counts and responses over time. For a large brand that wants automation and AI-driven review management, that is real value. It helps teams with hundreds of locations streamline the work.

Census Mastery takes a narrower path built around senior living rules:

  • Every review from Google and each directory that publishes them lands in one reviews inbox, with anything 3 stars or under pulled to the top.
  • On Full Census and Waitlist, the AI review replies never confirm or deny that anyone is or was a resident and never repeat a health detail, even one the family wrote first.
  • You read every reply before it posts. The AI writing follows fixed rules: warm, plain, 40 to 90 words, no arguing and no incentives. Once your Google Business Profile is connected, posting to Google is one press.

That HIPAA point matters more in senior living than almost anywhere. A reply that says "we're sorry your mother fell in her room" is a privacy problem. I wrote more about it in the guide to HIPAA-compliant review responses.

One more thing on review requests. Ask every family. Do not pick only the happy ones to send to Google, because Google's rules forbid selectively asking for positive reviews. Census Mastery's texting and review requests never offer an incentive and never ask the same family twice in 30 days, but who gets the ask is up to you, so make it every family. That is how you improve online reputation in a way that lasts, because the reviews are authentic and every family had the same chance to speak.

Listings, local search and senior living directories

Birdeye goes deep on a handful of big platforms: Google, Facebook, Apple, Yelp and Bing, with one-click fixes. Census Mastery goes wide on senior living, checking 150+ directories including A Place for Mom, Caring.com, Seniorly and SeniorAdvisor, and shows your rank on a Google Maps grid of your town.

Birdeye's listings page is honest about its approach. It says most vendors sell "200+ directories" that customers never search, and that it prefers native, real-time integration with the platforms that drive calls. For a dental chain, that is the right call. Its listings agent optimizes listings and can apply approved updates across every location in one click, which keeps Google Business Profiles accurate for multi-location brands.

For a senior living community, the directories that matter are different. Families read A Place for Mom, Caring.com, Seniorly, SeniorAdvisor and U.S. News, and AI engines cite them when they recommend a community. If you are not on them, you do not get found online by the families who are ready to tour, and your whole online presence looks thinner than the community down the road. Census Mastery's audit flags each listing as missing, unclaimed or wrong, and even flags other businesses using your street address. It links you to where each fix gets made, but it does not push your listing out to publishers the way a syndication tool does.

The Google Business Profile and map rank feature adds a rank grid that is 11 points by 11 points, 10 miles across, so you can see where you show up in local search and where you vanish. I could not find a geogrid on Birdeye's pages. If that idea is new to you, here is what a geogrid is and why it matters for the Google Maps pack.

AI search visibility: ChatGPT, Gemini and the rest

Both tools track AI search. Birdeye tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and more, with a visibility score and share of voice per location. Census Mastery tracks six engines with up to 20 prompts written around your care type and town, from $147 a month.

Birdeye's AI Search page goes a step further on fixing: its AI Search Optimization Agent ranks fixes by impact and sends other agents to change listings, publish content or work on reviews. If you want software that acts for you across hundreds of locations, that is a strong feature.

Census Mastery's AI search visibility report shows who each engine names, in what order, with what sentiment, and which pages it cited. In senior living those cited pages are often Caring.com and A Place for Mom, which is why the directory audit and the AI report work as a pair.

This matters. BrightLocal's 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey found that 45 percent of consumers now use AI tools for local business recommendations, up from 6 percent a year earlier (BrightLocal survey sources). For the full playbook, read how to show up in ChatGPT for assisted living.

Competitor insight and analytics

Birdeye finds your local competitors automatically and benchmarks you with the Birdeye Score, including social media activity. Census Mastery picks up to five competitors from your own Google Maps results and runs the identical senior living audit on each, platform by platform, so you see exactly where they beat you.

Census Mastery head-to-head table comparing an assisted living community with three competitors across Google, A Place for Mom, Caring.com and Seniorly

Birdeye's Competitors AI covers reviews, social benchmarking, strengths and weaknesses, and trends over time. It is broad analytics built for brands with many locations, with segmentation by location, region and review source.

Census Mastery's competitor analysis is narrower and more local. You see each rival's Google rating, review count and newest review, plus their A Place for Mom, Caring.com, SeniorAdvisor and Seniorly pages. Then the monthly market scan shows who in your market is paying for Google and Facebook ads. Every number links to the page it came from, and when a number cannot be read, the report says "could not verify" instead of guessing.

Where Birdeye is better: customer experience and messaging

Birdeye is better if you need one platform to talk to families, not just to manage your reputation. It has a unified inbox, webchat and an AI chatbot, payments by text, QR and web, appointment and front desk agents, social publishing, ticketing, and enterprise security for large operators.

Here is the honest list, all from Birdeye's own pages:

  • Messaging and webchat. Birdeye's chatbot answers website visitors around the clock, captures leads and hands off to live staff, with a smart inbox for every chat and every message. Census Mastery has no webchat and no unified inbox.
  • Payments. Birdeye offers payments by text, QR and web. Census Mastery does not take payments.
  • Operations agents. Birdeye lists front desk, appointments, reminders and waitlist agents under its operations coworker. Census Mastery has none of that.
  • Enterprise compliance and support. Birdeye's senior living page lists SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001, SSO, audit logging and 24/7 support.
  • Listing updates at scale. Birdeye applies approved listing fixes across every location in one click. Census Mastery tells you what to fix and where, but you or your team make the change.
  • Social. Birdeye can streamline social publishing and benchmark social posts. Census Mastery does not manage social media.
  • Integrations. Birdeye lists a wide integration catalog on its integrations page, and its senior living page names Yardi. Census Mastery's integration list is short: your Google Business Profile, Google Search Console and Google Analytics, with one read-only sign-in.
  • Referral marketing. Third-party plan summaries from CostBench list referral tools on Birdeye's Dominate tier. Census Mastery has no referral program feature.

If a regional director of marketing for 80 communities asked me which to buy, I would point them to Birdeye. That is the truth. Birdeye says it ranks #1 on G2 for enterprise reputation management, and for that size of business it is a top-rated reputation and customer feedback platform.

Where Census Mastery is the better fit

Census Mastery is the better fit for an owner who wants to know why beds are empty and what to fix this month. It is built only for senior living, priced from $79 with no contract, and scores you against the five communities families compare you with.

AI search visibility for an assisted living community across ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI engines

  • One industry. The Census Score weighs your Google rating (25 points), review count against competitors (15), newest review age (15), directory coverage (15), directory and review site ratings (20), owner reply rate (5) and a clean page one for your name (5).
  • Senior directories. 150+ checked on every audit, with the ones families read named one by one.
  • Map rank grid. Included on every plan.
  • Lead pipeline. A simple senior living CRM with a public enquiry form on every plan, including the $79 one, with every website enquiry landing in your pipeline and texting from a local number on Full Census.
  • One login for the whole job. The tools consolidate your Google numbers, reviews, directories, map rank and leads, so you are not paying for five point products to attract more customers.
  • A move-in guarantee. On Full Census and Waitlist: at least one move-in, or you get Census Mastery free for life plus 6 months of marketing worth US$12,000. Terms apply.

And here is what Census Mastery does not do, so you are not surprised later. There is no unified messaging inbox, no webchat, no payments, no phone system, no human team writing your replies, and no Yext-style listing syndication. It grows census. It does not track beds the way ALIS, Yardi or other operations software does.

Pricing compared

Census Mastery publishes its prices: $79 a month for one community, $147 for up to three, and $297 for seven, then $35 each. Birdeye does not publish prices. Third-party trackers estimate $299 to $449 per location per month, typically billed annually, which puts Birdeye at about four to six times the cost for one community.

Plan or estimate Communities Monthly cost Yearly cost Source
Census Mastery, Census Watch 1 $79 $948 censusmastery.com/pricing
Census Mastery, Full Census Up to 3 $147 $1,764 censusmastery.com/pricing
Census Mastery, Waitlist 7, then $35 each $297 $3,564 censusmastery.com/pricing
Birdeye Starter (estimate) 1 $299 per location about $3,588 CostBench, verified Aug 26, 2026
Birdeye Growth (estimate) 1 $349 per location about $4,188 CostBench, verified Aug 26, 2026
Birdeye Dominate (estimate) 1 $449 per location about $5,388 CostBench, verified Aug 26, 2026

Birdeye's own pricing page shows a quote form with location brackets from 1 to 3 up to 1,000 plus, and its pricing blog says cost depends on the products you pick, the number of locations and the contract, with annual agreements typical. So treat the Birdeye rows as estimates and ask for a written quote. When I rank tools for 2026 by cost for a single community, Census Mastery sits well below Birdeye on every plan.

On trial offers: Census Mastery has no free trial. Every plan carries a 30-day money-back guarantee instead, and you can cancel any time. The launch coupon CENSUSMASTERY30 takes 30 percent off for as long as you stay, for sign-ups before 11:59 PM Eastern on Sunday, November 1, 2026. I break the numbers down further in Birdeye pricing explained.

Other Birdeye competitors: Trustpilot, Sprinklr, Brand24, Experience.com and more

Capterra's Birdeye alternatives page lists names like Trustpilot, Brand24, Sprinklr, Experience.com, GatherUp, Thryv, Hibu, PulseM, Doctible, Referrizer and GiveMe5.ai. Most are general tools for social listening, small business marketing or health care practices, and few of them read the senior living directories that families actually use.

That does not make them bad software. It means a senior living owner should ask each vendor one plain question before a demo: do you read A Place for Mom, Caring.com, Seniorly and SeniorAdvisor, and can you show me my community on them today? The answer tells you most of what you need to know.

Owners who compare Census Mastery and Birdeye usually look at a few other matchups too. The buyer's checklist is in senior living reputation management software. Each of these puts Birdeye side by side with another big platform and then adds a third option built only for senior living, so you can see the whole field before you choose.

How I researched this comparison

I checked every Birdeye claim against Birdeye's own public pages on October 19, 2026, and linked each one. Prices Birdeye does not publish come from a named third-party tracker with its date. Census Mastery facts come from its live pricing and feature pages. No vendor paid for placement.

Senior living reputation compared with three competitors on Google, A Place for Mom, Caring.com, SeniorAdvisor and Seniorly

My research or methodology is the same one I use for every vendor in this series. I read the vendor's home page, pricing page and product pages, note what is stated and what is missing, and mark anything I could not find as "not found" rather than "no." Customer service quality, generative AI output and feedback from real users vary by account, so read recent user reviews before you sign with any vendor.

Census Mastery vs Birdeye FAQ

These are the questions senior living owners ask me most when they compare Birdeye with Census Mastery. Short answers first, with the source behind each one, so you can check anything I say against Birdeye's own pages before you sign.

Is Birdeye any good? Yes. Birdeye is a serious, well-built customer experience platform, and its own pages show strong review, listings, AI search and webchat features. For senior living owners the question is fit and cost, not quality.

Does Birdeye work for assisted living? Birdeye has a senior living page and a case study with Arrow Senior Living, a 46-community operator. Its demos for senior living start at 10 to 50 communities, so it leans toward larger groups.

Does Census Mastery have a free trial? No. It has a 30-day money-back guarantee on every plan instead, and a free Census Score on a 20-minute call.

What’s the difference between Birdeye and Census Mastery? Birdeye is a broad customer experience platform for many industries, sold on annual quotes. Census Mastery is a narrow senior living tool with published monthly prices, a senior directory audit, a Google Maps rank grid and a lead pipeline.

Can I use both? You can. Some operators keep Birdeye for messaging and webchat and add Census Mastery for the senior directory audit, map grid and Census Score. Just be sure you are not paying twice for review requests.
